The Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud is the new downhill world champion. He won the title today, 9 February 2019, in Swedish ski resort Åre, where Alpine Ski World Championships take place.
Due to bad weather conditions, heavy snowfall and wind, the organizers postponed the race about one hour later.
The winner was the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud who became downhill world champion. He did not let his teammate Aksel Lund Svindal to win and to enjoy a world champion title at his last downhill race. Svindal finished on the second place, having only +0.02 behind Jansrud. Svindal has announced that he will end his ski carreer after these world championships. The Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr got the bronze medal, arriving on the third place.
Officials, skiers and public congratulated Aksel Lund Svindal for his amazing and succesfull alpine ski carreer.
Men`s race program will continue on Monday with Alpine Combined.
Tomorrow, 10 February 2019, Alpine Ski World Championships will go on with ladie`s downhill.
