Karl Geiger won in Oberstdorf the first event of Four Hills Tournament, the famous tournament that starts at the end of 2020 and will finish at the beginning of 2021. The German had an excellent come back after being infected with Covid-19. He won the fly skiing world champion title few weeks ago and now had a new big victory.
The well-known Four Hills Tournament, edition 2020-2021, started today in Oberstdorf. The beautiful Bavarian town is one of the most important German ski resorts. Oberstdorf helds ski jumping, cross country and nordic combined events in FIS World Cup. The large hill Schattenbergschanze helds the first event of this famous tournament. The weather was windy and the snowfall disturbed almost all jumpers.
Qualifications took place yesterday and the Austrian Philipp Aschenwald. Today the Austrian finished on the 8th place. The German Karl Geiger won the first round while his teammate Markus Eisenbichler hardly got the qualification for the second round.
The second round took place in bad weather conditions, due to heavy wind and snowfall. The round was stopped several times, but finally all jumpers competed. Karl Geiger kept the first position and won this first event in the Four Hills Tournament, edition 2020-2021. The Polish Kamil Stoch got the second position. The Norwegian Marius Lindvik finished the third. He won the rounds in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck on the Four Hills Tournament, edition 2019-2020.
The German Markus Eisenbichler finished on the fifth place. Austrians Stefan Kraft and Philipp Aschenwald finished on the sixth and eight places.
The next event will take place on 1st January 2021 in the Bavarian ski town Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Qualifications will take place on the 31th December 2020. After Garmisch-Partenkirchen event, the tournament will move in Austria. Innsbruck and Bischofshofen will held the third and fourth events.
