Karl Geiger is the ski flying world champion 2020 in Planica

Karl Geiger is the new ski flying world champion. The German won his first ski flying world title in Planica, on Saturday 12 December 2020.

The Ski Flying World Championships 2020 take place in Slovenian ski resort Planica between 10 and 13 December. Qualifications took place on Thursday 10 December. Men`s event took place on Friday 11 December and on Saturday 12 December, two rounds every day. The team event will take place on Sunday 13 December. The competition takes place without public because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The German Karl Geiger won the first two rounds on Friday with very good jumps. The Norwegian Granerud was the second and the German Markus Eisenbichler got the third position. The last two rounds of Saturday didnt change the podium. Geiger won with only half point more.The Norwegian Granerud proved again his very good start in this ski jumping season. The German Eisenbichler claimed the bronze medal after good jumps, but he had medical issues before the four rounds.

The Austrian Michael Hayboeck got the fourth place. The Polish jumpers Kamil Stoch and Piotr Zyla had good jumps, but they couldn`t get any medal.

Tomorrow men teams will fly for the gold, silver and bronze medals. Germany is the big favorite for the gold, especially after the excellent results of Geiger and Eisenbichler on the first days.

Will Karl Geiger win a new world champion title together with his team mates or maybe Norway team will get the gold medal? Poland and Austria have also good jumpers, but Germany keep the first chance for the world trophy.
