Many sport competitions took place in Europe in the first half of August 2019. From tennis to summer ski jumping, from Formula One to football, Europe was the scene of some important events.
Tennis
Generali Open Kitzbuhel tennis tournament 2019 took place in the well known Tyrolean ski resort as ussually, between late July and beginning of August. The Austrian Dominic Thiem, the World No 4, won the tournament for the first time in his career. He beat the Spanish Ramos-Vinolas in the final, in two sets.
Formula 1
Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2019 took place in Budapest, the capital, in the first weekend of August. The British Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes team, won the race and keep the first place in the general ranking. The second place belonged to the young Dutch racer Max Verstappen from the team Red Bull Racing Honda. The German Sebastian Vettel from Ferrari arrived in the third position.
Summer ski jumping
The first important event for best ski jumpers took place in the famous French ski resort Courchevel during the seond weekend of August. Sara Takanashi from Japan and Timi Zajc from Slovenia were the winners of the summer ski jumping competition in Courchevel. The next event will be in Poland, in Zakopane, this coming weekend.
Football (soccer)
2019 UEFA Super Cup took place in Istanbul, on Vodafone park stadium between the English teams Liverpool and Chelsea. Liverpool beat Chelsea with 5-4 penalties after extra time and 2-2 after 90 minutes. Liverpool has an amazing season 2019 with two marvelous victories, the first in the UEFA Champions League final and the second, in UEFA Super Cup final.
European football championships has already started in Great Britain, Germany and Spain. In German championship Bayern Munich, the best German football team, didn`t beat Hertha Berlin, this being the first big surprise of this first round.
