Königssee (Schönau am Königssee) is a small Bavarian locality situated near the border between Germany and Austria, on the end of the nothern part of the lake with the same name. It is surrounded by the Alps.
The town can be easily reached from Berchtesgaden and from Salzburg.
Königssee is known for St.Bartholoma church, a pilgrimage church located on a peninsula on König lake. Boats bring tourist to the church after a nice trip on the lake.
Schönau am Königssee has a permanent exhition dedicated to the well-known German actress Romy Schneider. The museum is located at the main entrance in the town.
Königssee has the oldest permanent track in the world for luge, skeleton and bobsleigh. It hosts Luge World Cup events in the beginning of every January.
